The Reporters Academy

Throughout my second year of college, I became involved in a group called The Reporters Academy. The academy helps to nurture young people in to the world of media by exploring all the different aspects of media itself, such as photography, short videos, editing and interviews. I attended a few events such as the England v France Rugby World Cup Final at Salford Stadium, and the Sports Award evening held by Salford City College on behalf of all sports across the college.

At the rugby, i operated the sound while another students was giving the interviews. Although it doesn't sound like much, it was a very exciting experience. I'd never been to anything like that before and the atmosphere was incredible. All the footage we gathered that night we used later in a report of the event.

Below is the video for the Salford City College Sports Awards 2013. I am proud to say that i contributed to almost half of the editing of this piece. My role on the night of the awards was taking pictures of the award winners and the special guests such as Jamie Moore (Boxer) and Joe JJohnson (Snooker player). It was a fun night, i enjoyed being the photographer and met some new people. Going back in to college to see all the footage was amazing, there was so much to choose from and me and another student came up with this sequence. It involves interviews, vox pops and a montage of the whole night, and really captures how important something like this is to the college. It was a pleasure to be part of The Reporters Academy and I'll always be willing to take part if asked to do so again.

Sproc.Net Motion Graphics

When we started our motion graphics unit, we had to experiment with the different programs and learn how we create the graphics.

E4 E-Sting Animation

This was, in my opinion, the hardest assignment i faced. There was so much preparation involved before i could do any practical work. I liked doing the ideas generation because it allowed me to be creative, and make my own unique animation. I explored many different ideas but this one really stood out for me and it turned out how i imagined it which was good. Some weaknesses of this was that i didn't stick to the time in which i had to it. I think it was mainly down to the fact that i thought i couldn't do it,. but i knew that i had to try harder and try to understand more of what was going when actually bringing the objects to life. It made me realise that it's very important to stick to a time management plan, because if not, you'll fall behind and end up trying to do everything at once. Although i got it all finished in the end, i had a lot of pressure on me to get it finished and this sidetracked a bit too.

Short Film Production

This is my film Two Idiots and a Lady which i made for my Short Film Production unit. It has the typical cliche storyline of a damsel, who has two men trying to win her heart by wooing her. The genre was slapstick comedy, and i edited it to a style where it looks like and old style film in black and white, with flickering film. I enjoyed doing this because of the many effects that i could use. Even though i faced obstacles on the way, it strived me on to create an even better production.

NHS Becoming A Member

For this we were commissioned by the NHS at Salford Royal Hospital to make a short film, to encourage people to become a member of the NHS Foundation Trust. It highlights the benefits of  'Becoming a Member' and we wanted to make it so that it encouraged people to want to sign up and become more aware of what goes on at the hospital. They keep you up to date with any changes that are being made, or you can have your say on a certain topic. I enjoyed the task as i gained more experience in practical camera work,  film editing and i got more familiar with the editing software.
